Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry.
Winston Churchill
From our research and experience, we have identified common problems encountered by "executives in trouble". These weaknesses can be grouped into three categories:
Difficulties in making decisions
- More intelligent than other executives--often "brilliant" technical experts
- Intellectually arrogant - "Know it all"
- Skeptical of others' ideas
- Stubborn and unyielding
- Risk averse - slow to make decisions & focus on "worst case scenarios"
- Slow to adapt to change
- See obstacles rather than opportunities
Poor Social and Communication Skills
- Independent loners--focused on own needs & reluctant to ask for help
- Trust issues--skeptical of other’s motives & keep safe distance
- Lack social & political awareness
- Poor listeners
- Unconventional & refuse to play the game
Poor Leadership Skills
- Poor team members & team leaders
- Preoccupied with their own concerns
- Poor developers of people
- Not inspirational--too pessimistic, reactive, closed to ideas, loner tendencies, poor social skills
- Lack vision & ability to motivate
- Circled the wagons--holding on & defending
